Summary of God's Treasured Possession

Do you know how God sees you?

Moses is a key character in the unfolding narrative of God's Kingdom. A foundational leader of God's people in the Old Testament, he's held up throughout the New Testament as a man of God, in spite of his flaws. Yet Moses didn't always believe what God said about him.

In this biblically balanced book, Terry Virgo invites us to walk in the footsteps of Moses so that, by faith, we can be ready for whatever life brings.

Press Reviews

Terry Virgo has spent a lifetime preaching through biblical stories and drawing out their significance for today, and it shows. In My Treasured Possession he opens up the life of Moses, the greatest of Old Testament figures, and his exposition is full of insight, application and pastoral wisdom.

- Andrew Wilson, Teaching Pastor, King's Church London

As theologically solid as the best commentaries and as practical and uplifting as the best devotionals, these bite-sized reflections on the life of Moses challenge and inspire in equal measure.

- Sam Hailes, editor of Premier Christianity magazine and elder at Christ Central Church in Penge and Crystal Palace.

I love Terry’s reminder that beginning with Moses, as Jesus told the travellers to Emmaus, all that had been revealed in scripture was about him. All of it - written for our sake. Thus he whets the appetite to dig in. What one finds is a feast, particularly for Christian parents seeking to bequeath this treasured possession of faith to their children. As such a parent, this book gave me hope to keep praying for my children as they wrestle with choosing between all that this world promises over the harder to grasp treasure that I want them to take hold of. This hope is fed as I read a moving portrait of the young man Moses coming into the fullness of his inheritance as part of God’s treasured possession.

- Esther Prior, Vicar, St John's Egham

I am happy to recommend this book which could only have been written by a veteran pastor with a deep understanding of the human heart. In chapter after chapter Terry Virgo explains the spiritual dynamics in each event in the life of Moses, gives insight into appropriate New Testament parallels and fulfillments and then provides practical wisdom that I think will be both challenging and helpful to every Christian who seeks a deeper personal relationship with God himself.

For years many have benefited from listening to Terry Virgo preach on the life of Moses. Now Terry has given a gift to us all; he has written down a lifetime of his insights and reflections on this servant of God which we can all benefit from. This wonderful book will encourage you, challenge you and draw you closer to God. You cannot fail to benefit from it as you read it, treasure it and take its message to heart.

- David Stroud, Senior Leader of Christ Church London and Co-founder of Everything Conference.

Reading this book by Terry Virgo will make you feel as if you are tasting honey. It flows from the clear mind and warm heart of one of God’s most admired servants. If this is your first book of Terry’s to read, you will soon see why this is so. Get prepared to be both challenged and encouraged from start to finish.

- Dr RT Kendall, former Minister of Westminster Chapel, London.

No one has captivated me like Moses. He was one of the few that ultimately did not want leadership because he really did understand what it would cost him. Nor was his fulfilment in his mission – it was in God. The story of leading the children of Israel out of Egypt is rich for us today. Now, add to that Terry Virgo’s insights to him and you have an incredible book that is hard to put down. I love the format of the book, which tells the stories in an engaging way and then forces you to ask questions about what it means for us. No one has impacted me more than Terry Virgo. He is a rare leader. Everyone will get something out of this book.

- Bob Roberts, Founder of Northwood Church and Glocalnet, Keller, Texas, and author of several books.

With a wealth of wisdom and rich biblical knowledge Terry Virgo brings fresh insights into well-known stories in a way that equips leaders and encourages all believers. This is God’s word handled in a life giving way.

- Tope Koleoso, Pastor of Jubilee Church, London.

Terry Virgo opens the book of Exodus and helps us to see how the stories it tells were “written for us”. Whilst highly accessible and easy to read, this book is not a simplistic devotional. It combines deep exegetical insights with biblical theological interpretation that takes us from Moses to Christ and then draws lessons for our own Christian lives and service. Terry draws engagingly on many experiences from his own ministry to help us make personal applications. All Christians will be encouraged by this book to rejoice afresh in the astonishing grace of God that has set them free from slavery to sin. Church leaders will be especially encouraged to face challenges, disappointments and failures with renewed confidence in God’s call and the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit.

- John Stevens, National Director of FIEC.

Terry Virgo is one of my spiritual heroes – someone who has greatly enriched the lives of many, including my own. This book on the life of Moses is classic Terry; an amazingly comprehensive yet skilfully concise portrayal, filled with clear biblical insights, personal illustrations and practical application. Read and be blessed.
